Clamecy relied on a timber trade from the 16th century to the early 1900s. The city centre is dominated by the church of St-Martin with its handsome Flamboyant tower and façade begun in1497. Museum: the display about flottage (the floating of the logs down the river) is a very interesting feature of a rich and diverse collection which also includes Italian, Dutch and French paintings.
